Description
Boston Pickling is an heirloom cucumber variety that has earned its place in American gardens for over a century. Originally bred for pickling — as the name suggests — this productive variety is just as enjoyable sliced fresh into salads, layered onto sandwiches, or eaten straight from the vine on a warm afternoon.
The plants produce an abundance of smooth, medium-sized cucumbers with crisp flesh and a clean, refreshing flavor. Their firm texture holds up beautifully in brines and preserves, making them the go-to choice for gardeners who love putting up jars of homemade dill pickles, bread and butter chips, or refrigerator pickles.
Boston Pickling cucumbers are vigorous growers that love Southern Virginia’s summer heat. Train them up a trellis to save space and keep the fruit clean, or let them sprawl for a generous ground cover. Either way, expect a steady and prolific harvest from early summer well into fall.
