Three years ago, Jessica and Mike left the fast-paced life of San Diego behind, drawn to the quiet beauty of Southern Virginia and the chance to be closer to family in Chesapeake. They fell in love with Lawrenceville – the land, the neighbors, and the sense of community that welcomed them from day one.
Seeing that the area needed a family-friendly u-pick farm, they decided to create one. With a shared love for blackberries and a vision for something special, Twin Ponds Farm & Nursery was born.
Growing Something Different
Twin Ponds Farm isn’t your typical berry farm. While blackberries and elderberries form the heart of the orchard, the plans reach far beyond the ordinary. Passion fruit, cold-hardy kiwi, and honeyberries are on the horizon. A young stone fruit orchard — peaches, nectarines, and plums — is already taking root, with the first trees planted and years of harvests ahead. A slowly maturing apple and pear orchard rounds out the vision of a truly diverse, specialty fruit farm.
The farm also raises heritage breed chickens — Ameraucanas and Easter Eggers — and Cayuga ducks, offering hatching eggs to help others start their own flocks. As a certified NPIP tester, Jessica serves fellow poultry keepers throughout Southern Virginia.
Built with Intention
Every decision at Twin Ponds Farm reflects a commitment to quality and care. From selecting rare fruit varieties that thrive in Virginia’s climate to maintaining NPIP certification for flock health, the focus remains on doing things right rather than simply doing things quickly.
The nearly 100-year-old red barn stands as a reminder of the farm’s roots, while the orchards and nursery represent its future. This is a farm built to grow slowly, thoughtfully, and beautifully – inviting customers to be part of the journey.
