Description
Our Bob Gordon Elderberry plants are prized for their exceptional berry size and sweetness. Discovered in 1999 in Osceola, Missouri, this variety produces large ¼” elderberries packed with antioxidants—more than four times the value of cherries.
What makes Bob Gordon special: Strong, productive plants that are easy to maintain and adaptable to various soil conditions, including clay. Sweeter and bigger berries than most elderberry varieties, perfect for making pie, jam, wine, and syrup. Some natural resistance to Japanese beetles.
Growing Details:
- Hardy zones 3-9
- Ripens in July
- Requires a pollinator (any other elderberry variety works)
- Preferred soil pH: 5.5-6.5
- Grows well in clay soil and most soil types
- Bird netting recommended before fruit ripens
Important Safety Note: Elderberries must be cooked before consumption. Consuming fresh elderberries can be toxic. Please ensure all berries are properly prepared before use.
